Pipelines around the world are at risk through deposits, age, and corrosion. Leaking sleeves and cracks represent a risk to the environment, and signify the loss of important raw materials such as drinking water, gas, or oil. This is also the case in Mongolia. Just under a mere half of the entire population of Mongolia lives in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, which translated means “red hero”, around 1,465,000 people. Ulaanbaatar is the political, economic and cultural center of Mongolia and, with it, the municipal pipeline network is a major component for the entire country. When sustainable sewer renovation measures are required here, then the skills of experienced suppliers are in demand. Within the framework of a comprehensive soft loan project, in which numerous levels of government have to be taken into account, the Austrian RTi Rohrtechnikgruppe [Pipe Technology Group] has henceforth obtained approval for equipping the municipal utilities and waterworks of Ulaanbaatar with the necessary high-tech rehabilitation systems. In order to be able to correctly operate the systems, and to guarantee a flawless transfer of know-how, representatives from the municipal utilities of Ulaanbaatar are currently being intensively trained on-location in Austria by the RTi and the employees of NordiTube Technologies SE, a subsidiary company of the RTi Group. As part of the next stage, the transport of the rehabilitation systems to Mongolia is to take place, fitted, among other things, with the complete SCHWALM robot system (robots Talpa FSR 1330 and 2060, sewer cameras, tools, control, and cable drum), so that the trenchless pipe rehabilitation can begin in Ulaanbaatar in the next few months.

The municipal utilities of Ulaanbaatar and the RTi team are looking forward to the upcoming initial rehabilitation works in the Mongolian capital city. This project will make not just a considerable contribution towards the sustainable development of infrastructure in Mongolia, but will also actively promote climate and environmental protection.
