Whenever things get tricky, Martin Schwalm, owner and creative head of the company, feels involved and more than happily challenged. But this time, the challenge was to find a special solution for a customer abroad, within a very short period of time, for sealing 1/2 inch connections in drinking water pipelines in order to prevent resin from getting into them during installation of liners in the water service pipes. In addition, the sealing process needed to be designed to be time and cost-efficient. For the implementation of his idea, Martin Schwalm first opened a bottle of wine in order to be able to model the sizes for uptake of the plug wheels. The corks, ground to a point, serve as compression plugs. The prototypes designed by Martin Schwalm within a week are now tried and tested, and delivered an outstanding result. A wheel with four corks (fig. 1) was built as a tool attachment for the Talpa FSR 1330, and a wheel with six corks (fig. 2) was built for the larger 2060 miller. Both tool attachments were promptly used by the customer and delivered not only an outstanding result, but also significant time and cost savings.
