Big dents

Groundwater forcing shaft floor upwards

Who likes dealing with these? Nobody! Rapid help was therefore the order of the day when such dents were recently discovered at 14 subsurface shafts on the B450 between Frielendorf and Fitzlar. What had happened? The ground water had risen and bent some sections of the shaft floor upwards. To solve the problem, specialist tools were used (see photo). And construction manager at Schwalm, Michael Draband got an urgent phone call. At the same time as the stabilization of the shaft, he was told it would also be necessary to complete a trenchless concrete casing above the channel. "We completed this specialist work at 12 of the shafts," explains Draband. "That was something special as it was the first time that work of that kind had been done in such a way. But everything ended well and the dents have now been repaired," says the construction manager, with a smile.
